Tobi and Asher made their towards the exit. They passed the two bouncers stationed at the exit and while Asher responded to the bouncers greetings Toby ignored them totally.
"They were greeting you." Asher told Toby thinking he didn't hear them.
"And I ignored them." Toby said with a careless shrug. He opened the door to the driver's side and got in. He put the car into reverse not waiting for his best friend to get in. "What the fuck! Toby, you didn't even let me get in before driving off. What the hell's wrong with you?" Asher complained.
"At least you're in now so stop whining." Toby grumbled.
Asher shook his head. He missed his former friend. The old Toby would never leave a club 20 minutes after being there. Remembering the red head from the club caused a wave of sadness to wash over him. The Toby he knew would never let any woman smooch him, at least ever since he married Mara.
Toby was player type that is before he met Mara. She changed him into the better version of himself. Though Asher has been a player ever since the love of his life dumped him for his step dad who was richer and powerful than him. He later found out that the reason she dated him at the first place was to get closer to his step dad who married her after his mother's death a year ago.
He still didn't want his friend to be like him, He was only a player because he couldn't bare another heart break but Toby's story was different.
"So...did you enjoy smooching the redhead?."
Toby didn't reply, he knew the conversation was going to end in a bad way so he tried to stall but seeing as Asher was waiting patiently for an answer he gave in.
"Uhm...yeah, what can I say? She did...good." He finished with clearing his throat, something he does anytime he's nervous of a question. Asher noticed.
"Would you do it if Mara was--."
"Stop it, Asher." Toby cut in.
Asher would have continued anyways but the tone Toby used warned him to keep his mouth shut and he did.
He knew if he pressed on it might severe the relationship between the both of them. Asher watched as his best friend's demeanor changed from calm to dangerous. He watched as the grip Toby had on the steering hardened causing his knuckles to turn white and the muscles in his jaw twitched repeatedly.
Asher placed his hand on his thigh and rubbed in an attempt to calm him down but Toby jerked his thigh away from him.
Asher sighed and placed his hand back down on his own thigh. The journey back home was full of tense silence.
Toby dropped Asher in his home and drove off not bothering to bid his friend goodbye but Asher just shrugged it off and walked into his home whistling.
He concluded that there was no point in trying to make him change. The only thing he could pray for is someone like Mara who can change him for the better.
Melanie kept repeating soothing words to tiffany who was sobbing uncontrollably. After Kevin's attack on Tiff, she had been sobbing not only because of the pain from her now swollen cheek but the embarrassment she received. She was with her friends who were mostly Kevin's business partners' wives and even though they looked sorry she knew they'd later laugh at her back when she was gone.
Kevin had gone back home after the scene he made not even bothering about the party he organised.
Melanie helped Tiff up and grabbed her bag then led her towards the front door still patting her back. Her mind was far away as she kept reassuring Tiff. As much as she didn't want to she couldn't take her mind off a particular young man with midnight black hair and blue eyes. She was drawn to good looking men but this one was different. She felt like she knew him even though she was sure she was seeing him for the first time. Her mind wandered off to what he was doing with Mabel and the rage she felt almost took her breath away, she was shocked that she was that angry for such a small thing but that didn't take away her anger. Tiff must have noticed it and asked her if she was OK but in her rage she didn't even see Tiff. She was pulled out of her thoughts of ways to murder the redhead when Tiff tapped her.
"What?." She asked slightly annoyed that tiff pulled her away from her thoughts of the man she was thinking of. she was also relieved because the distraction pulled her away thoughts away from the murder she would have no doubt committed.
"I asked if you were OK....are you?." Confusion and fear was all over her face. In a way Tiff has been like a mother to her though she'd never admit it out loud. She cared for Melanie like her own child even though she was only a few years older. Melanie always felt bad after being rude to her but she couldn't help it so she did what she could, pulling her close and comforting her.
"I'm sorry."
"What?."
"I'm so sorry."
"I don't understand."
"If i hadn't been distracted I'd have stopped my uncle from doing.....what he did to you I'm so sorry Tiff."
Tiff sighed and hugged Melanie tighter. "It's not your fault, Mel. In fact i should be thanking you if you didn't interfere when you did it would be way worse and you know it."
"It's still my fault..i should have--."
"No. Don't do that. We both know it's my poor luck." Tiff said to lighten the mood but it had the opposite effect on Melanie.
"Don't say that. It's all my uncle's fault, you do not deserve that."
"Let's not talk about this, how's Bryan? I was hoping you two would come together."
Melanie rolled her eyes. "Well, he couldn't come."
"Is there something wrong?."
"Nope. He is busy fucking one of my friends." Melanie said nonchalantly.
Tiff's face went pale instantly. "Oh Mel, i'm so sorry i didn't know it was that bad between you two."
"Yeah, you didn't know."
"But...you don't look..."
"Yeah, i don't care. He can go fuck his ancestors in their graves." She said rolling her eyes again.
"But... How...why?." Tiff asked, confused at how Melanie didn't care about her boyfriend being with another girl.
"Tiff forget it let me take you home." She dragged a still shocked Tiff to her car and pushed her lightly into the passenger's seat then rounded the car to the driver's side and got in. She put the car into reverse and drove out of the club's garage.
