Every morning, by the time Xavier came downstairs, Lily had already left. Only the breakfast that Emma prepared was waiting for him.
These were the obvious changes—the surface-level ones. The subtler ones, though, were more noticeable in bed.
She no longer clung to him or acted coquettish. He'd noticed the emptiness in her eyes a few times, clear and devoid of any desire.
These small changes were starting to weigh on him, distracting him during meetings. It wasn't until the meeting was over that Timothy walked over to him.
"Mr. Fulton, are you feeling alright?"
Xavier raised his hand, frowning slightly. "I'm fine."
Timothy felt a shiver of unease. The good days had barely lasted, and now Xavier seemed to carry more weight on his mind than before.
His instinct told him it had something to do with Lily, but he didn't dare ask.
"Have you ever had a girlfriend?" Xavier suddenly asked.
