Silas and his father exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from confidence to doubt. The sense of victory they had been so proud of was shattered by my words.
"Don't make a fool of yourself," Silas said, his voice wavering slightly but still stubborn. He wasn't ready to admit that anything could threaten their triumph.
