CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN - The Little Steps
Richard and Elizabeth were beaming, already discussing plans for the nursery and debating over what the baby would call them.
As their parents chatted excitedly, Ella leaned into Lucas's side. "I guess you were right," she murmured. "They are thrilled."
Lucas kissed the top of her head. "Told you so. Now, let's go celebrate with our family."
The rest of the evening was filled with laughter, tears, and countless questions about the baby. As Ella looked around at the joy on everyone's faces, she felt a sense of peace settle over her. This might not have been planned, but it felt right.
The autumn leaves rustled outside the window of Ella and Lucas's bedroom as Ella stirred from her sleep, a sharp pain radiating across her lower abdomen. She glanced at the clock - 3:27 AM. As she tried to sit up, another wave of pain washed over her, more intense than before.
"Lucas," she whispered, gently shaking her husband's shoulder. "Lucas, wake up."
