CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY THREE - The Unveiling
Sophie, rechristened "Emily," had the hardest time adjusting. She would often ask when they were going home, not understanding why they couldn't return to their "real" house.
One night, after tucking Sophie into bed, Ella found Lucas sitting on their small back porch, staring out into the darkness. She settled beside him, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked softly.
Lucas sighed, wrapping an arm around her. "Everything we left behind. The life we built. I keep wondering if we'll ever get it back."
Ella felt tears prick at her eyes. "I know. I miss it too. But we're together, and that's what matters, right?"
Lucas nodded, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Always. You and Sophie are my whole world. As long as I have you two, I can face anything."
