Caleb nodded. "Don't use me anymore, Carissa. Try to fall for me—I'm not that bad. In fact, I'm much better than Michael. I've liked you for ages, too."
He told me that he'd liked me since our school days. To him, I was rather cold and aloof. It didn't seem like I would fall for anyone.
He also told me he and Tara had never gotten together. He'd only spoken to her to find out about me. He'd hoped to win my heart through Tara, but I'd later left the country. Shortly after that, he'd enlisted in the army.
Caleb never expected me to get together with Michael. The fact that the woman he liked was dating his nephew drove him mad with jealousy, so he never returned to Goldman Manor.
As I listened to him speak, I realized we'd both been tricked by Tara. She'd told me that Caleb liked her, not me. She'd said, "I'm sorry, Carissa. I know you like Caleb, but he and I are genuinely in love. Please, give him to me."
