“Grandma, we’re family. Why stand on ceremony?” Chase implored with feigned humility.
Giselle’s stomach churned with disgust. She never pegged Chase as such a consummate actor.
Knowing Grandma was in the dark, she decided to keep it that way, to spare her any fright.
“Chase, thanks for saving Grandma. Can I have a moment alone with her?” Giselle said, her eyes leaving no room for argument.
Chase offered a hollow smile, exchanged pleasantries with Grandma, and made his exit.
Once he was out of sight, Giselle ushered Grandma indoors, carefully ensuring privacy before whispering urgently, “Grandma, how did you really end up here?”
“I went out to look for you, and nearly got run over. Thankfully, Chase was nearby and even escorted me to the hospital,”
Grandma recounted, squeezing her hand with affectionate relief.
“I’m just glad you’re back,” Grandma added, her eyes tender.
