Henry was taken aback, his words having ignited a firestorm he hadn’t anticipated.
He inhaled sharply, his voice low and apologetic, “I’m sorry. I was too hasty.”
A shiver ran through Giselle’s heart. When had Henry started to learn the art of apology?
But her calm returned swiftly, and with a cold laugh, she shot back, “Afraid of losing me? Henry, your possessiveness disgusts me. Do you really think that by locking me up, I’ll forever be yours?”
“Shut up!” Henry’s voice cracked with the strain of recalled warnings from Nathan Jefferson, his control slipping as he threatened, “You are mine alone!”
“I—” Giselle began, but a sudden nausea cut her off, sending her rushing to the bathroom.
She hovered over the sink, heaving, and when she lifted her gaze, Henry’s stern reflection met hers in the mirror.
After wiping her mouth, she turned to face him, “Do you believe me now?”
“Believe what?”
Despite his visibly pale demeanor, he was still in denial.
