I bury my nose into the forest floor, although faint, I would remember that scent anywhere. I recall how potent it was, burning into my nostrils when he was pushed up against me in the hallway of the pack house. The scent is somehow both exhilarating yet cruel. Jaxon mind links me with his head cocked to the side, “what did you pick up?” He stares at me for a moment longer before approaching me and rubbing his wolf’s head under mine in support and comfort.
My lungs burn for air and I suck in a punishing breath, “Christian’s scent. It’s everywhere”, I explain. Like clockwork, Jaxon pushes his nose down and starts to locate the scent, turning over every stick, every leaf, every rock along the path. “There’s nothing”, he finally replies, looking at me quizzically and suddenly I feel my wolf scratching inside. She’s livid. She knows what she smelt and she doesn’t like to be questioned. While faint, it’s definitely his scent. He must be here. But where?
