I slept like a lost child in the woods. Every noise I heard set me upright. Every moan or sigh from Ava had me on edge. This wasn’t a way to live.
She was right. I knew that but I couldn’t give her false hope right now. I couldn’t let her believe that I would leave my father alone to deal with this. Levi wasn’t mature enough to make rational decisions, and my father’s head was too far gone. I couldn’t allow them to handle the Capellos alone.
I couldn’t leave this lifestyle until I knew what was going to happen. And frankly, I had no earthly idea what was going to happen between the two families.
When the sun hit our bedroom window the next day, I got up and made coffee. Jones was taking his morning shift when I walked out back.
