Chapter Eighteen - Fletcher
My entire resolve slipped and cracked down the middle. When I raced up the stairs and found the man from the bar speaking with her, I panicked.
In my gut I knew he’d seen her on the news.
Luckily, he backed off but I wasn’t sure he wouldn’t call the police to the hotel. Part of me wanted to go back home tonight, but the other half knew we needed the rest.
I grabbed her boxed up food from the server, tipped her and shut the door behind me. I placed the food into the fridge and found my way toward the master suite.
She was upset with me and I couldn’t pinpoint why. Had I pushed it too far? She was my wife though our marriage wasn’t normal by any means, I thought she enjoyed it.
Sliding my palm down my face, I cleared my throat at the door. She’d slipped into a long T-shirt that hit the middle of her thighs. When she looked over her shoulder, there was a sign of sadness residing on her face.
“Are you okay?” I asked, bracing my forearm against the doorjamb.
