Hijacked
“Dinner was delicious, Catalina.”
Ivan joins me in the kitchen where I’ve just finished doing the dishes. I feel his presence behind me, his arm wrapping up around my waist and keeping me close.
“I don’t think I’m appreciating your hard work enough.” He adds. “The thing you’ve brought into this home...They’re countless. I hope you know how grateful we are.”
I turn to face him with a little smile on my face. Though there is no music around us, our bodies sway in perfect harmony in a slow dance. I chuckle and he laughs too.
“I know but it feels nice to hear it anyway.” I tell him.
Ivan hums before playfully pinching the tip of my nose.
“...Is something bothering you?” He asks.
“No. Why?”
“I don’t know...You just seems different.”
Ivan must know me more than I expected. Tonight, my mind is clouded by the decision I’ve taken this morning and the consequences it might have. I didn’t want him to notice but I guess I couldn’t control my facial expressions.
“It’s nothing.” I tell him, standing
