She rose. ‘Gotta go. Work’s calling.’
‘Drive safe.’
Isabel ran into Austyn and the twins in the hallway outside.
‘Hi, Aunt Isabel!’ Jennie greeted her excitedly.
Joshua opted for the more mature way—a polite head tilt.
‘Hi, kids.’ Isabel patted the girl’s head. ‘Here to see your mum?’
‘Go ahead, kids,’ Austyn said. ‘I need to talk to your Aunt Isabel for a while.’
Kai took the kids into the ward.
‘What’s up?’ Isabel checked her wristwatch. ‘I’m running late.’
‘What did you two talk about?’
‘Oh, you know, this and that. Typical girl stuff. Nothing you would be interested in.’
‘Did she mention anything that happened in Kham?’

‘The doctors here say she’s suffering from transient amnesia.’
