The Chase
Kira didn’t want to face Gideon, didn’t want to find out how angry he was after discovering her disappearance.
Impatient, he grasped her shoulders, forcing her to look up.
She’d just been gone for a few days, but Gideon seemed to have aged a decade in the meantime.
His face was unshaven, his hair unkempt.
His skin had a sickly pallor to it.
His eyes burned with a maniacal gleam not unlike Henry’s.
Kira scooted back on her seat, keeping as much distance between them as possible.
‘One of my men lost his life tonight,’ Gideon said, staring at her like he wanted to devour her. ‘For you.’
‘I didn’t ask you to save me,’ Kira shot back.
‘But I wanted to. I would have sacrificed every man in my employ, every last one of them, if it could get you back.’
Kira felt goosebumps form on her skin.
Gideon’s sick, pathological obsession with her had consumed him, caused an inordinate amount of trouble for her and Austyn.
She could never understand that kind of passion.
She loved Austyn, but she didn’t
