‘Somchai said you didn’t eat much at lunch.’ Gideon picked her up, deposited her in the wheelchair and pushed her to the table. ‘This is fish bone broth. It will aid in your recovery. Try it.’
Kira remained motionless in the chair.
Gideon picked up a spoon. ‘I can feed you if you want.’
Kira snatched the spoon from his hand.
He smiled as he watched her eat.
Kira could barely keep down any food.
She had been drugged for most of the journey and her digestive system didn’t seem to take to the local cuisine that well.
This was the first time she finished an entire bowl of soup without throwing up.
Gideon leaned in, wiping away a drop of soup on her lips with his fingertips. ‘Good girl.’
Kira retched.
Gideon pulled back, frowning.

Kira doubled over and threw up.
Gideon cleaned up the mess without a word.
She skipped dinner.
Somchai went home at night, leaving her and Gideon alone.
When it was time for her to take a shower, Gideon carried her into the bathroom.
