Chapter 10
Today, Irene routinely boxed and exercised before bed. After taking a shower, she habitually checked Celestial Gardens’ group chat while lying in bed.
There was nothing new in the group. They were all discussing the increasing temperature and the fact that the Danver Islands had been uncontactable.
She started to feel sleepy after skimming through the texts for a bit, so Irene put on some soothing music, closed her eyes, and went to sleep.
After returning from the previous apocalypse, Irene had not been sleeping well. Even the slightest bit of movement would wake her up.
When there were rustling sounds at the door, Irene opened her eyes.
She pricked up her ears to listen.
She was not hallucinating. Someone was actually trying to break in!
Irene glowered as she took out a Swiss army knife and held it in her hand. She leaned against the wall and listened to the noises coming from outside.
Judging from the voices, there were at least three people!
“Damn it, this woman’s lock is too hard to open,” a man grumbled in a gruff voice.
A slightly familiar chuckle followed. “That means she’s rich, right? I saw two days ago that her house has three bolted doors. Be quiet and don’t wake her up. She’s one crazy b*tch.”
As predicted, it was Dan’s voice.
Someone snorted. “How crazy can she be? Can’t the three of us beat that b*tch?”
The other person hesitated. “Is this really okay?”
Dan chuckled. “She offended me, so I’ll show her that I’m not someone she should be messing with!”
The man thought that with Dan leading them, he had nothing to be afraid of, so he set aside his worries.
The few of them picked up speed with dirty thoughts in mind.
Irene was disgusted at their foul intentions.
She wanted to take out her gun and kill those people, but the world was not in complete chaos yet. If the sound of her gunshot attracted the attention of others, she might go to prison.
Irene frowned as she watched their every moment, but in her mind, she was rummaging through the space’s infirmary.
After finding the tranquilizer gun, Irene decided that she was not going to let herself go to prison.
At the same time, the door handle was pushed downward.
The man hunched over to open the door. He excitedly walked in while turning back to say, “It’s open, you guys get the tools and follow—”
Before he could finish speaking, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach.
He looked down and saw a gleaming knife twisting in his stomach. Then, the knife was swiftly pulled out.
Blood was gushing out like a faucet that had been turned on.
The sudden loss of blood made the man dizzy. His body tilted sideways and fell straight to the floor.
Dan and the other guy realized that something was wrong, so they looked up, and the impudence on their faces disappeared. Irene was standing there, dressed in all black with a terrifying presence and a bloody knife in her hand.
Although Dan proclaimed to be well-informed, the sight before him still shook him to the core.
The man next to him was even more timid. The sight of her made his legs go limp, and he almost fell to the ground. “She… She killed someone.”
Dan’s heart skipped a beat when he saw Irene lift her leg to cross the threshold.
He had blood on his hands too, so he was familiar with the look in Irene’s eyes. She was coming for his life!
After coming back to his senses, Dan instinctively took out a knife from his pocket.
However, his movements were not as agile as Irene.
Before he could slit Irene’s throat, she had already shot a dart on Dan’s neck with the tranquilizer gun.
Thud! Dan staggered, fell to the ground, and was instantly out cold.
After agilely shooting Dan, Irene pointed the gun at the man who was huddled in the corner. She tilted her head and looked at him. “Would you like to try?”
“No, no.” He frantically shook his head. The puddles of blood and Irene’s cold stare made the man’s legs tremble and face pale.
Irene held the tranquilizer gun in her hand, but her eyes were fixated on the tools on the ground.
Huh, they were quite well-prepared.
She took another step forward and kicked the rope on the ground. “Tie them up, then.”
The man did not dare say a thing, so he quickly tied up Dan and the other guy who had lost a lot of blood.
The floor was covered in blood, and there was a foul smell of iron in the air. Irene frowned and said, “Clean it up.”
The man wanted to refuse, but the tranquilizer gun and blood-stained knife made him weak in the knees.
Although he was certain that he would be accounted for what he did, he still had hope.
He wiped off his sweat and nodded. He went to Dan’s house to get a towel and a mop before squatting on the floor and carefully cleaning up the blood.
After cleaning, he knelt down before Irene before she could say anything. “Miss, I was wrong… I shouldn’t have messed with you. Please let me go. I have parents and children to take care of, so I can’t die.”
Irene only sneered in reply.
No matter how pitifully he spoke, Irene would not show him any mercy.
She knew that he only apologized because she had a weapon to subdue him.
If she had been in a weak position today, the roles would have been reversed.
Irene glared at him and walked to the pile of tools. She kicked the bag open and saw a black camera.
Her eyebrows knitted together. “Why is there a camera?”
The man prostrated himself on the ground and mumbled, unwilling to speak for a long time.
Irene picked up the tranquilizer gun and stepped forward. “Do you want to compete to see who’s faster?”
The gun in her hand made him tremble in fear, so he told Irene everything he knew.
“Trey Young and I are gamblers, and we lost all our money last month. Dan told us that you sold three buildings worth two billion two months ago, so Trey and I took the risk because we were being chased by debt collectors. I never had other intentions, I promise!”
Irene was surprised as she did not expect Dan to find out how rich she was.
Dan was able to control this building in her previous life, so she guessed that he must have some influence, but she did not think that he was able to get information on her background.
She clenched the knife in her hand. “What about the camera?”
Cold sweat streamed down the man’s forehead. He took several deep breaths before he said, “It’s Dan. He wanted to rape you and take photos of you to threaten you…”
He carefully looked at Irene’s expression as he spoke.
Seeing the sullen look on her face made him panic even more. “Ma’am, I really didn’t mean to do anything to you. Please let me go. I’ll never do this again.”
He got on all fours and hit the ground with his forehead non-stop.
If she had not been listening to their plans against the wall earlier, Irene would have actually believed him.
What a pity.
Even if he did not have such intentions, Irene never thought of letting him get away with it.
She did not think he was innocent at all as he was one of the people who committed crimes with Dan in her previous life!
Irene pulled the trigger on the tranquilizer gun.
Whoosh! The dart pierced his skin, and his body stiffened up. Soon, he fell to the ground, unconscious.
