Chapter 45 - The Questioning
With her wrists raw from the chains that held her to the prison, Nythara lay slouched against the chilly stone wall. While hunger tore at her insides, the wet air stuck to her skin. They were starting to feel the effects of nights of starvation, isolation, and questioning.
Here, the loneliness and powerlessness were different from anything she had experienced in her time. With her magic gone, she was left to rely solely on her wit, and even they were beginning to turn against her as her body began to deteriorate.
The halfling came in again as the door cracked open. His face, a warped hybrid of man and horse, glared down at her with delighted hatred, and he was as hideous as she remembered.
Nythara's appetite was heightened by the smells of the steaming plate of soup and grilled chicken he was carrying in his hands. His hoofs clattered lightly on the stone floor as he walked toward her,
"Don't you wish you could have a bite?"
