As Kaveh and his sons returned to Lady Shahan's quarters, the chilly stone hallways of the palace appeared even more gloomy. Anticipation pulsed between them as each stride rippled through the corridors.
Kaveh nodded silently to Kian as they drew closer, and Kian instantly fell into his role, his eyes going blank as he assumed the submissive, blank look Lady Shahan had demanded of her enchanted puppet.
Kian moved slowly, almost mechanically, toward the door of her chamber, his steps dead. The hinges creaked slightly as he pushed it open, and he entered, staring straight ahead.
Lady Shahan, who was impatiently pacing the room, turned abruptly when he walked in. Her eyes glowed with contentment as her face brightened with joy, her beloved toy seemed to have returned home.
“How was the battle, my love?” She asked as she trailed her fingers over his arm and said in a smooth voice, there was a tinge of possessiveness in her voice, as if she owned him entirely.
