Gordon's ears reddened as he gave an embarrassed smile.
I couldn't help but wonder at the sight of him if he was truly this easy to flatter. He was blushing over a simple complement. This wouldn't do. He'd be taken advantage of with all the flattery in the workplace if he could easily get carried away with such little praise.
I called the waiter for the bill, but Gordon insisted on paying.
The waiter informed us that the bill had been taken care of just as we were politely bickering over it. It was paid by Darren, who had left halfway through the dinner earlier.
I immediately spotted him leaning against the car when we walked outside the restaurant. He was on a call.
He stood beneath the dim streetlights with one hand in his coat pocket. The gusty wind lifted his unzipped coat and swirled the withered leaves across the asphalt road.
He hadn't left yet.
Gordon smiled slightly as he bade me farewell. "See you tomorrow, Cassie."
