Chapter 15 Knew It

As Emily observed Megan, rage surged to her crown. "Having injured my son and tarnished my daughter's reputation, I shall end you!" The handbag she wielded was flung towards Megan, missing its mark by a wide margin. Not only did it fail to reach Megan, but Emily herself nearly stumbled and fell. Regaining her balance, she attempted another blow at Megan, only to be halted by two bodyguards stationed at the door of the hospital room. "Who do you think you are? Move aside!" The bodyguards were indifferent to her commands. Megan placed the meal boxes and informed the bodyguards, "The one on the left is for my grandmother, the right for your employer." Then she grasped Emily's wrist and forcefully dragged her into the elevator. Teetering in her high heels, Emily struggled to maintain balance, let alone confront Megan. As the elevator doors closed, Emily grabbed her bag to strike at Megan again. The next instant, her wrist was seized tightly by Megan, eliciting a cry of agony from her. "Ah! Release me!" Megan released her until they reached the garden. Engulfed in her efforts to break free, Emily's head striking the pillar with a muffled thud. The sharp pain forced a gasp from her lungs and she cursed vehemently, "Are you out of your mind?" Ignoring Emily's fury, Megan showed her a video of Sophie setting up a hidden camera. "Emily, what if I send this video to Myles?" Emily had completely forgotten to remove the camera. Now her complexion shifted dramatically. "How did you obtain this?" She swiftly reached to snatch the phone, hoping to delete the video. Megan withdrew her phone, "Feeling the pinch now? Didn't you ponder the backlash when you plotted against me?" Emily's hand trembled visibly, her eyes reddened with rage. "You knew it all along!" Reflecting on her son's head wound stitched with over a dozen sutures, and her daughter's ruined reputation, her desire to pounce on Megan heightened. However, she could not afford to act on her intentions, for the Johnson's salvation hinged upon Myles's help. And Myles's decision to aid their company lay in Megan's hands. Swallowing her seething rage, Emily resorted to fabrication. "Megan, my intentions were for your benefit. Myles is no suitable match, that's why I arranged for you to meet with Harry. If you manage to secure his affections, he would surely not let you marry Myles." Megan looked at Emily with a smile, "I've decided to leave Harry to Sophie. No need for thanks." Emily was on the verge of a meltdown. "Megan, you'd better pray that Hannah stays healthy for the rest of her life, or else you'll regret it!" "I shall indeed devoutly hope for my grandmother's longevity. And you should refrain from sneaky antics and from disturbing Hannah." Emily scoffed, her voice rife with insincerity, "As long as you keep Myles steady and he assists the Johnson, I'll cease to trouble you and Hannah." "Good." Megan left. As Emily watched Megan's retreating silhouette, her eyes brimmed with malice. "Megan, just you wait!" For now, her immediate concern was the survival of the Johnson. Any personal anger must be stifled. Once the crisis was averted, Megan would no longer have leverage over her. The faint echo of her words reached Megan's ears, but she paid them no mind. She made her way to visit Hannah. The breakfast served on a small table remained untouched, as Hannah had not spared it a glance. "Grandma, I took action against Kane and Sophie yesterday. You're not upset with me, are you?" Megan inquired, offering an explanation for Emily's unwelcome intrusion. Hannah replied with a chuckle, "Grandmother knows they must have provoked you first. You didn't get hurt, did you?" "Not at all, Grandma. Fearing they might cause a disturbance, I asked bodyguards to protect you." "There's no need to protect me. They wouldn't dare to harm me. Let the bodyguards leave immediately." Megan understood Hannah's reluctance to incur unnecessary expenses. "Grandma, the fee has been paid in advance and is non-refundable." Actually, the bodyguards were not there on Megan's dime, but at Joseph's behest. Previously Joseph had warned that their marriage could affect her grandmother. She casually remarked that he was surely capable of keeping her grandmother safe. To her surprise, not only did he take her remarks seriously, he acted on them. Unaware of the bodyguards' origins, Hannah insisted sternly, "When the time comes, let them leave." Megan readily agreed, "OK. Please eat your breakfast." Upon her arrival at Joseph's special care room, Joseph was eating. - "Thank you," Megan said. Joseph, understanding the reason for her gratitude, replied with nonchalance, "It's the least I could do." After breakfast, he broached the topic of James's accession to the Moore family business. "Now that James has become the heir to Moore Holdings, I hope that during the term of our marriage you will remain detached from him. Our families are in competition." "Joseph, I won't distance myself from a friend due to a contractual marriage. However, I can assure you that my dealings with James are strictly personal and will never involve business matters," Megan promised. Joseph recalled James's willingness to exchange the Moore family's largest project for Megan. "You seem to share a significant rapport with James?" Megan nodded forthrightly, "We are close friends." More accurately, James was her confidant. But she chose her words more carefully in front of Joseph. Joseph hid his displeasure, "If James and I were to clash in business, whom would you support, Megan?" Megan responded promptly, "I would support neither. You two can settle it amongst yourselves." "Well then, I suppose I must trust you, Megan. I do hope you won't disappoint me." Megan smiled, "Joseph, I do uphold the spirit of our agreement." Just then, her phone rang. As she reached for it, Joseph's sharp eyes caught a glimpse of the caller ID— it was James. "Joseph, take care and rest well. I must be going," said Megan as she prepared to leave. Joseph called after her, "Megan, there's something…" Interrupting him, Megan stated, "Whatever it is, it can wait until noon." With that, she quickly exited the room. Joseph watched Megan's swift departure, his eyes revealing a trace of displeasure. James was challenging him. And James was overestimating his own capabilities! Joseph made a call to Oliver. "Keep an eye on Moore Holdings. I want to be informed of their movements." Oliver, overwhelmed with work, reluctantly agreed, "Yes, Joseph." "You've been working hard recently. Consider your bonus doubled," Joseph added. Overcome with fervor, Oliver replied, "Thank you, Joseph." Oliver then remembered something of importance. "Joseph, Liam will be seeing you soon. He will request the return of Dragon Seal, which currently resides with Megan. What's your plan?"
