Chapter 13 Dream On

James and Oliver promptly pretended to be customers and headed toward the restroom. Emily's brow unfurled with joy. She seemed to have a pleasant exchange with Myles. Either she received the urgently needed funds, or Myles agreed to save Johnson Holdings. Her good mood evaporated upon laying eyes on Megan standing by the wall. The smile on her face vanished in an instant, she exclaimed, "Megan, why are you here?" She seems completely unharmed! Feigning confusion, Megan replied, "Didn't you have Sophie inform me to wait here for you? She said you wanted to speak to me." No sooner had she finished than the police sirens reached them. Shortly after, Myles received a call from the lobby manager. "Myles, the police have come. Could you come down?" The corridor was silent, and everyone heard him. Myles asked with a furrowed brow, "Is it targeted at our bar or is it a large-scale operation?" "Specific to us. The police received a tip-off about illicit activities in the bar. The vice squad has arrived and begun their search." "Cooperate with the police. I'll handle it." Myles made his way to the elevators as he spoke. Emily had a sinking feeling when Megan lied, but restrained herself from confronting her in front of Myles. - Now that Myles had departed, she immediately seized Megan's arm, "Where is Sophie? Did you do something to her?" Megan twisted her wrist, breaking free from Emily's grip. "She said she had a big matter to attend to and told me not to interfere." "You're spouting nonsense!" Emily was so frantic that she cursed. Glancing instinctively toward room 305, her heart leaped to her throat. She glared threateningly at Megan, "If anything happens to Sophie, Hannah won't live to see another day!" With that, she charged toward room 305. The moment her hand touched the doorknob, a police voice echoed from the elevator area. "Everyone stand still and do not move. Present your ID cards and cooperate with the check." Myles, seeing the dozen or so policemen emerge from the elevator, knew they wouldn't show him any leniency. He grew instantly tense. Although his bar didn't openly offer special services, many promotor girls were willing to entertain wealthy clients and receive hefty fees afterwards. He had sent a warning message to the VIPs on the third floor, but those engrossed in revelry might not check their messages. "ID cards! " Under the police's prompt, Myles presented his ID card. Megan handed hers, too. Emily didn't have hers and recited her document number instead. As the door to room 305 swung open, Emily peered inside inadvertently. She saw Sophie, almost fully undressed, pinning Harry down on the floor. She was tugging at his belt, emitting tantalizing moans. The police took photos as evidence before stepping in to separate the two. With the interruption of her eager desires, Sophie shifted her focus to entangle herself with a policeman. Emily rushed into the room, loudly clarifying, "My daughter was set up! She's the victim here!" The police having encountered countless similar situations promptly bound Sophie with her clothing to restrict her movements. They then addressed Emily, "We will investigate to ascertain the truth. Please, do not impede our duty." Afterwards, they took Sophie and Harry to the hospital. Emily had no time to settle scores with Megan and immediately followed after them. Upon leaving the bar, she witnessed reporters capturing Sophie's disgraceful state. The sight nearly caused her to faint. Myles, watching many people taken away by the police, clenched his jaw in anger. He approached Megan with a certainty and inquired, "It was you who called the police, wasn't it?" Megan faced Myles's rage, neither confirming nor denying. "Myles, only lawful business can endure. And my issue is not with you." Her explanation slightly softened Myles's ire. Out of curiosity, he queried, "The whiskey Sophie offered you must have been drugged, yet you're unaffected. Why?" "I took an antidote beforehand." "You're clever and alert, finding opportunities to turn the tide even when disadvantaged. Would you be content marrying me?" "Content? Far from it. Hence, I shall exhaust all means to not marry you." "As long as Hannah needs Sophie's bone marrow and they rely on me to resolve their corporate crisis, you cannot escape." "Let's wait and see." "Indeed." Admiration gleamed in Myles's eyes, mingled with a determined spark. The more challenging she was, the more he yearned to prevail! Myles muttered with anticipation, "I will make you my wife!" James and Oliver, overhearing this declaration, simultaneously said in contempt, "Yeah, dream on." Exchanging a roll of their eyes, they departed. By the time they left the bar, Megan had vanished without a trace. Originally intending to rest, Megan ended up at the hospital instead. Though visiting hours were over, she managed to see him. The dim glow from the bedside lamp in the ICU bathed Joseph's face, softening his cold demeanor. Megan, standing by the bed, spoke earnestly, "Joseph, I do not appreciate being watched over." Even if well-intentioned, such surveillance was unwelcome. "It's not surveillance, but rather assistance when necessary. I wouldn't want my future wife to be embroiled in scandals." "Rest assured. I handle my affairs with discretion and will not burden you." Joseph's gaze narrowed slightly, the pressure in the room intensifying, "Are you marrying me only to save your grandmother?" "What else could it be? It's not as if I'm head over heels for you, is it?" "Perhaps there's another reason, say, James?" Megan regarded Joseph, whose emotions were unreadable, "Just give me the antidote, and I will vanish from your life." Setting aside her lack of affection for James, even if she harbored any feelings, she wouldn't sacrifice her marriage to aid the Moore in surpassing the Martinez. Were it not for her grandmother's salvation, she would never step into the treacherous world of powerful clans. Sensing Megan's indignation, Joseph apologized with sincerity, "I apologize for baseless suspicion. If you play the part of Mrs. Martinez convincingly, and I become the head of the Martinez family, I will provide you with the antidote." After a pause, he added, "I can also help resolve your issues with the Johnson and ensure Sophie willingly donates her marrow to your grandmother." Megan disliked external interference in her matters and rejected his offer without hesitation. "No need. I will resolve my own problems." Joseph conceded, "Fine." "If there's nothing else, I should leave." Not long after Megan's departure, an uninvited guest entered Joseph's hospital room—James.
