Chapter 6 The Basketball Team Makes a Move

Fox parked his bike and ran towards the classroom. On the way, he encountered an unexpected person. Jennifer was sitting at the corner, holding a book. It was still "Gone with the Wind." “Hey, good morning! Thanks again for your help yesterday,” Fox greeted her warmly. Jennifer touched her book, revealing a few sheets of paper inside. “I prepared a quiz based on yesterday’s topics for you. Try to complete it when you have time,” Jennifer said, her eyes hidden behind her glasses. The handwriting on the paper was neat and delicate. “Thank you, Jennifer,” Fox felt a warm glow in his heart as he accepted the papers. “Oh, by the way, my mom made some more cookies last night. Would you like to try some?” Fox pulled a small bag from his backpack and handed it to Jennifer. Jennifer smiled and immediately opened the bag, happily munching on the cookies. “Are you heading to the library after this?” Fox asked as they walked together. “Mm-hmm,” she nodded, her cheeks puffed up like a squirrel’s from the cookies, making her look quite cute. “Isn’t it boring being there alone? Why not come to the classroom?” Fox invited her. Boring? With books around, Jennifer never felt bored. Choosing between the classroom and the library was the same for her. However, the classroom had Fox, which might be more interesting. “Sure, let’s go to the classroom,” Jennifer said, swallowing her cookie. They walked towards the classroom together, but their conversation had taken up a lot of time. Being late was inevitable, and the teacher was already furious. “Fox, it’s you again! Do you want to be punished?” the teacher glared at Fox angrily. “She was showing me the way, teacher. I haven’t been to the classroom for so long, I got lost,” Jennifer stepped forward, defending Fox. This was a lie, a rare experience for a “good student” like Jennifer. “Oh, Jennifer, you’re here. Alright, if you were showing him the way, I’ll let it slide this time,” the teacher said, but his eyes shot daggers at Fox. It was a clear warning: Mess with Jenny or Jennifer, and you’ll regret it. Although the teacher didn’t say anything, Fox could read the underlying message in his eyes. They entered the classroom, causing a stir. Jenny’s face turned blue with anger. This disobedient dog, how dare he act like this. She was sure Fox was trying to make her jealous. But who was this girl? Why was she in their classroom? Rocco clenched her fists, unable to forget the earlier humiliation. She swore to make Fox pay. But how? If she pushed too hard, Fox might pull the same stunt again. Rocco decided to calm down and rethink her strategy. “It’s review time, so we’re only going over past material.” “I must remind you all not to get distracted during this crucial period.” “Fox, do you understand?” The teacher’s wolf-like gaze focused on Fox. High school dating in the U.S. wasn’t unusual. Many even married after graduation, some even had children. There was no need for the teacher to single out Fox. Fox had bothered Jenny and now was close to Jennifer. The teacher considered Fox a lost cause but wanted to protect the promising students like Jenny and Jennifer. “Yes, teacher, you’re absolutely right! I’m deeply reflecting on my mistakes.” “At this crucial time, we shouldn’t be distracted. We should focus on our studies and prepare for the exams,” Fox said, fully agreeing. His response left the teacher speechless. “I must report that this morning, the basketball team gave flowers to Jenny, affecting her studies,” Fox said, counterattacking. If he was accused of bothering Jenny, the basketball team was just as guilty. “You can’t just target me and let them off the hook,” Fox implied. “Exactly! They didn’t just affect Jenny, they almost made us late for school!” “Those minutes could have been used to learn new things!” Peterson, always supportive, chimed in. His grades were as bad as Fox’s, so time was crucial. “Yeah, the basketball team went too far!” “They should be punished too!” “We stand with Fox!” Many students admired Jenny but were restricted by the teacher. They saw Fox’s pursuit as a joke because they thought he’d never succeed. But the basketball team was a different story. Their actions couldn’t be tolerated. “Really?” the teacher adjusted his glasses, taken aback. Jennifer covered her face with her book, stifling her laughter. Fox was truly entertaining. “Jenny, is this true?” the teacher asked, frowning. “Yes, it is,” Jenny admitted, feeling intimidated by the teacher’s authority. “I’ve taught you to firmly reject such advances. No one will trouble you. We, the teachers, will handle the rest,” the teacher said sternly. Jenny’s face turned even darker. She couldn’t reject the gifts, as they fulfilled her material desires and boosted her vanity. The basketball team’s flowers were just the beginning. She wanted to see if she could get more from them. “You’ll reject them immediately, and I’ll go with you!” the teacher insisted. Jenny felt trapped. Jennifer continued eating her cookies, while Fox reached over to take some as well. Their movements were perfectly in sync.
