Charlotte, as I had discovered, didn’t know how to say no. She was a nice girl. And unfortunately for nice girls, they often get trampled by corporate politics. I had seen it happen multiple times; in fact, I was half sure I had done it myself before. But that was beside the point. The point was, Charlotte was my responsibility.
