Chapter 57
"Can you move at all? I'll help you upstairs. It's too cold down here," Clara said, glancing at Alexander, who was still slumped on the couch.
The rain from the night before had brought in a chill, and the temperature had dropped noticeably. It wouldn't be long before winter fully set in, and it was going to snow in Larkston soon.
Alexander nodded weakly, understanding his limits. He wasn't about to argue.
Clara draped his arm over her shoulder and carefully helped him to his feet. Step by painstaking step, they made their way upstairs.
Alexander's bedroom was spacious—clearly two rooms that had been combined into one. Clara couldn't help but notice that just one wall separated his bedroom and her own. The poor soundproofing explained why he'd heard her the night before.
Once she managed to get him to the bed, she gently lowered him onto it. After making sure he was settled, she went back downstairs to grab his medication and a glass of water.
