But now that he had revealed himself, he could take care of her personally.
"Alright. I'll have them all leave tomorrow," he said, following her lead. His gaze carried a touch of indulgence, a quiet kind of affection.
Seeing him agree, Clara found herself with nothing more to say.
It was already past midnight. She glanced out the window at the pitch-black night. "It's getting late. I'm going to sleep. You should rest, too."
"Go ahead and sleep. I'm not tired." Wren adjusted her blanket with practiced ease. "I'll stay here tonight. If I get sleepy, I'll just nap for a bit."
He had always stayed by her side whenever she was sick. All these years, that hadn't changed.
Clara was prone to nightmares when she was ill, often waking with a pounding heart. Wren was worried she'd be terrified if no one were there when she woke up.
Clara remembered that, too.
