As for Isaac, his eyes bore into me while his hand, which previously rested on the table, balled into a fist.
I exhaled, faced him, and said, "I'm sorry."
Isaac's features loosened into a smile. "You don't have to apologize. You and I aren't in any relationship, after all. So, you're not exactly betraying me if you fall for Zane."
I couldn't tell if I was mistaken, but malice flashed in his always warm and gentle gaze when he said that.
Then again, how could that be possible? Isaac was gentlemanly and mild-mannered. He had never scowled at anyone, so how could he have had such a hostile look?
I had to be mistaken.
Darcy still couldn't believe it. "Ari, how could you have fallen for Zane? He took advantage of you in your drunken state back then! We hated him a lot. How could you—"
"Many things have happened in the three years I was married to him. Besides, nobody can predict how their feelings will develop," I said.
