"Stop pretending that you care, Mr. Parker. The damage you did to Layla is something you can never make up for, not in this lifetime," Sylvia snapped.
She shot him a sharp glare before starting the car and driving away, leaving Seth standing in silence.
Sylvia's words cutting deep, his chest tightened under an unbearable weight.
Reaching into his pocket, Seth pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag.
White smoke curled around his sharp features, casting shadows over his already brooding expression.
His mind wandered back to four years ago. Clarissa's threats to take her own life had left him cornered, forcing him to lie to Layla and claim that he was on a business trip.
When he had finally returned, he had found Layla struggling to hold even a fork.
He had asked her what had happened. But she had brushed it off with a smile, saying that she'd cut herself on some glass and that it was nothing serious.
If only he'd cared enough to look closer, he might have realized
