Chapter 556
Taylor locked eyes with Natalie. "You said you'd be back tonight, so I stayed up waiting for you."
With that, he stood up and started walking toward her.
He reached out, wanting to hold her but hesitating. He then pulled his hand back, unsure. His gaze softened, and concern was evident in his expression. "Why did you come back so late? Did something happen?"
Natalie wasn't exactly heartless. She knew Taylor genuinely cared for her now, and she had no desire to trample on his feelings. Seeing him look at her like a loyal puppy and hearing a hint of sadness in his voice, her heart softened a little.
She explained, "The flight was delayed. You didn't call, so I didn't know you were waiting for me to come home."
"What if you had known?"
"I would've called to tell you to go to bed first."
A smile tugged at his lips. "Really?"
"Yeah, what's there to lie about this?"
"I had to fight the urge to call you all night," Taylor admitted with a soft chuckle. "I was afraid you'd be annoyed."
