CHAPTER 29: CLAIMING THE ROLE
Hotter than usual, the sun shone brightly against Shirley's sweaty skin. The air smelled of pine and damp earth as the rain had only stopped a few hours back. It was a welcome smell.
Drakon stood before Shirley in all his godlike grace and strength, which made her weak at the knee. His eyes were focused and serious, but she couldn't help the ache in her center. His calloused hands rested lightly on the hilt of his sword with such a mischievous stance that Shirley had to look away from him.
His sword was reflected by the sun, giving him the appearance of a demigod. Shirley scolded herself for being distracted when she was supposed to be extremely focused and ready for this training. Keeping her gaze on his, she set her hands on the hilt of her sword, mimicking his stance.
She, however, couldn't help but feel so small beside this giant before her. Her grip on the hilt and her determination and spirit were firm.
