Henry had just finished talking to Zane when he realized his phone was dead, out of juice. "Great, just great," he thought, remembering he hadn't told Sophie he was leaving that morning. "If she tried calling and found my phone off, she's gonna freak."
As soon as he charged his phone and powered it on, a flood of messages from Sophie poured in.
"Henry, how could you just leave without saying a word?"
"Why's your phone off?"
"Henry, are you out of your mind, turning off your phone like that?"
"If you've got the guts, never turn your phone back on, you jerk..."
Reading these, Henry's head started to spin, but deep down, he felt a surge of happiness. It was clear from the messages that Sophie was really worried about him. In her own way, she cared deeply.
Sophie, for her part, had been worried sick about Henry all morning, fearing something had happened to him. Her work suffered, her mind elsewhere, even drifting off during meetings.
