Chapter 14

Lorraine had workers helping her out at the orchard, but she generally helped with harvesting the fruits when she was around. Since the trees were tall, she would climb them. Logan took Charles' motorbike to the orchard based on the path he had memorized yesterday. He had a lunch box with him, knowing that Lorraine had yet to eat breakfast. The wolfhounds reared at the orchard heard him and charged out while barking. Even Logan, who was used to being in stressful situations, was shocked by them. He almost turned the motorbike around to flee. Fortunately, a worker followed the dogs out and stopped them before they could pounce on Logan. He said, "This is the boss' husband, which means he's one of us. You can't bark at him in the future!" He seemed to be a worker who'd been assigned to care for the dogs. They started wagging their tails at Logan as soon as the worker told them Logan wasn't a threat. "Don't be scared, boss' husband. These dogs sound quite fierce, but they're actually very obedient. Now that I've told them you're one of us, they won't bark at you anymore." The worker smiled and led Logan into the orchard. Logan and the children had come to the orchard yesterday to meet Lorraine, and she hadn't concealed their identities. And so, all the workers knew Lorraine had gotten married after going on a blind date yesterday. The worker appraised Logan, thinking about how handsome he was. Logan was even better looking than Lorraine. It was weird to hear someone call him the boss' husband, so Logan introduced himself, "I'm Logan Moore." "What do you do for a living, Mr. Moore?" "I'm a construction worker." The worker smiled. "It's not the easiest job, but it's honest money and pays relatively well. You can earn quite a bit each month if you're willing to put in the effort." "Yeah. There's no need to worry about not being able to make a living as long as you're willing to work hard, right?" Logan said. "Yeah. The boss is a hard worker, too." The worker kept chatting with Logan as he brought him to Lorraine. He wanted to learn more about Logan but also took the opportunity to tell Logan more about Lorraine. Soon, they stopped beneath a towering tree. The worker looked up at it and called, "Boss, your husband is here with your breakfast." Lorraine looked down. When she saw Logan, she smiled at him and said, "I've already had some toast." All the other workers had a few slices of toast and a glass of milk before getting to work. Logan said, "It's easy to get hungry when doing physical labor. Come down and have some more food." Besides, he had brought the food to her. Couldn't she eat it for his sake? "Have the kids gone to kindergarten already?" Lorraine asked. "Yeah, the driver came to pick them up. Lulu almost cried when she woke up and didn't see you around. She kept asking me whether she would see you when she came home tonight." The twins finally had a mother, so when they didn't see her upon waking up, they thought Lorraine had run away. They were only appeased when Logan reassured them. "I don't need to harvest any fruits tomorrow, so I'll send them to kindergarten." Lorraine needed to wait a few days for the next round of harvesting. She jumped off the tree. Worried that she would fall and hurt herself, Logan wanted to catch her. Unfortunately, he was half a beat too slow and could only watch as she deftly landed on the ground. It made him wonder whether she was trained in martial arts. William's information hadn't indicated anything on that, though. He supposed it was a habit she picked up after constantly climbing trees to harvest fruits. Logan handed her some tissues to wipe her sweat. He saw half a bucket of water nearby and brought it over for her to wash her hands. Then, he handed her the breakfast he brought over. His actions warmed Lorraine a little. It seemed he was more considerate and caring than she had thought. Just then, her phone rang. She answered it when she saw it was a call from Sonia. "Lorraine, are you at home?" Sonia asked, sounding a little urgent. "No, I'm at the orchards. What's wrong? Why do you sound so urgent?" Sonia sighed in relief when she heard that. Smiling, she said, "Nothing's wrong, but I do have some good news—I might have a business deal for you. "My boss heard about your cherries and said he wanted to give every employee a fruit basket for Easter. I'm bringing him to your place right now. I was worried you weren't home, so I called to check." Last night, Jacob called Sonia into his office after her call with Lorraine. Sonia thought he was going to reprimand her for being on the phone and deduct her bonus, but all he did after questioning her was tell her about the fruit baskets. He told her he was worried he couldn't buy enough fresh cherries. Since Sonia knew a supplier, he asked her to introduce him to the supplier today. If the cherries at Lorraine's orchards were good enough, he would purchase them from her. Naturally, Sonia had nothing but praise for Lorraine's orchards. Today, she accompanied Jacob to meet Lorraine to see whether the business deal was worth it. "I'm at the orchard, so you can bring him over. What's your ETA? I'll wait for you and Mr. Moore here," Lorraine said. After running the orchard for a few years, she already had a few regular fruit merchants. She didn't need to worry about selling the fruits when they ripened, but it was always good to have new customers. She knew Sonia was the general manager's secretary at the company where she worked, a Moore Corporation subsidiary. She didn't pay attention to these things. It was only because of Sonia that she knew a bit about Moore Corporation, the biggest company in Glendale. Despite being a subsidiary, the company still had over 2,000 employees. Countless people dreamed of working at any company affiliated with Moore Corporation. The benefits were great, and the salary was high. There were also many opportunities for promotions. "We'll reach in about half an hour," Sonia said. "Alright." Lorraine hung up and tucked her phone into her pocket. Then, she told Logan, "My best friend is bringing me a big client." Logan crouched and poured the cherries in the basket out to snip off the leaves. "Where does she work? I heard you mention a Mr. Moore." "Oh, Sonia's amazing. She works at Ernest Incorporated as the general manager's secretary. Get this, her boss' last name is Moore too. It's the same as yours! "She's worked there for some years now. I heard her boss is icy and distant, but he seems to be pretty tolerant of her. She loves it there." Logan's eyes glinted at her words. Ernest Incorporated was one of Moore Corporation's many subsidiaries, and he had assigned Jacob to manage it. Jacob had always been aloof and a man of few words. He was strict when it came to work. Since taking over Ernest Incorporated, he had gone through more secretaries than Logan could count. It was mainly because they couldn't stand him being such a perfectionist. His strict standards and coldness were also contributing factors.
