Chapter 12

Lorraine pulled out her phone and called her best friend, Sonia Lynch, who worked at one of Moore Corporation's subsidiaries. The call was soon answered. "What's up, Lorraine?" "Are you still working, Sonia?" "Yeah, but go ahead. Talking on the phone won't keep me from my work." Sonia was a white-collar worker with more flexibility in her work than others. She didn't need to worry about getting reprimanded by her superior just because she chatted on the phone for a while. "I've been too busy today to let you know—I'm married," Lorraine said. Sonia was taken aback. Then, she asked, "Wait, you're married? To whom? You don't even have a boyfriend. How can you be married?" She knew Lorraine's family was constantly urging her to get married. In truth, she was going through the same thing herself. Other women their age were already married with kids, yet she and Lorraine were still single. No wonder their parents kept urging them to marry. Sonia was always busy with work and couldn't care less about her parents' urging. On the other hand, Lorraine was almost going out of her mind from her parents' nagging. She knew Lorraine constantly went on blind dates. Lorraine was actually a prime candidate for marriage. The Somners owned land and were considered rich, but Lorraine's blind dates never worked out because she was so career-oriented. Because of that, Irene and Charles refused to sponsor her, forcing her to take out a loan for her orchards. "He's my blind date. Yes, I went on another one today. He seemed like the right guy, so we registered our marriage right then and there," Lorraine said. Sonia was baffled. "If I've said this once, I've said it a thousand times—we can't settle for anyone, no matter how anxious our parents are! Marriage is a big deal! If you marry someone, you're going to spend the rest of your life with them. "How could you have gotten into a shotgun marriage? Do you even know him? Never trust what those matchmakers say. They're lying through their teeth!" Lorraine agreed wholeheartedly, "I was sick of my parents nagging me about it, and I felt like this guy was a good choice. That's why we got married straight away. He's of good character, I swear. If you want me to pick out a flaw, it's probably that he already has two kids." "What? He already has children?" Sonia cried out, attracting her colleagues' attention. Even her direct superior, the general manager, looked at her through his open door. She hurriedly clapped a hand over her mouth and went to hide in the restroom. "You can't marry a divorcé no matter how sick you are of your parents' nagging! Don't tell me you don't want to have kids of your own just because he already has two!" Lorraine laughed. "You know me better than anyone else." Other women didn't want to be stepmothers, so they hated that Logan had the twins with him. On the other hand, she thought it was great to have the twins around. They helped bridge the distance between her and Logan, making it easier for them to get close to each other. Besides, they were adorable and intelligent. They didn't hate her either. She got a husband and two children from one shotgun marriage. How great was it that she didn't need to go through the pain of labor to become a mother? Sonia was exasperated. "What does he do?" "He's a construction worker at a site near Glendale Grand Hotel. He looks handsome, though. He's like Prince Charming when he wears a suit." "Did you marry him for his face?" "No, I liked his personality. I didn't have my glasses on during the blind date, so I couldn't see what he looked like." Sonia fell silent. She couldn't believe Lorraine dared to get into a shotgun marriage with a man whose face she hadn't seen. "What's his last name?" "Moore. His name is Logan Moore. It's a nice name, which fits his appearance," Lorraine said. Sonia was lost for words again. After a while, she said, "I feel like I've heard that name before. Oh, wait—it's because he shares the same last name as my boss. My general manager is also a Moore. His name is Jacob Moore." Jacob and Logan shared the same last name, but their lives were wholly different. Jacob was a son of the Moore family, the most affluent family in Glendale City. The head of the family and the CEO of Moore Corporation sent him to the subsidiary he was at now to manage it. "There are plenty of people in the world who have the same names, let alone the same last name," Lorraine said. She told Sonia about how she had married the wrong Logan Moore. Then, she said, "I think Logan wants to sleep with me. Do you think I should?" This was the point of her phone call. After a brief silence, Sonia said, "You two got into a shotgun marriage without knowing anything about each other, so there's no foundation for feelings. I think it's better to hold back on this until you two develop feelings for each other." She was very serious about her relationships and marriage, so there was no way she would marry a stranger like Lorraine had. She couldn't stand living with a stranger, no matter how handsome he was. "He seems to want it…" "Kick him out of bed. He won't dare to think about anything then. Knowing what you're capable of, that should be easy enough," Sonia said. Lorraine didn't get mad at that. She said, "C'mon, I'm such a gentle soul. Why do you make me sound like I'm so violent?" "Others might not know what you're like, but you can't lie to me. We've been friends and classmates from kindergarten up to university. Look at how you're climbing trees like a monkey every day! How dare you call that gentle? Don't make me laugh my head off," Sonia retorted. "Fine, fine. I know what to do now. You need to get back to work, and I need to shower," Lorraine said. Before hanging up, Sonia said, "Bring your husband out this weekend. I want to see whether he's worthy of you leaving your happiness in his hands." Lorraine sighed. This was the consequence of a shotgun marriage—there were so many questions and problems. "Look, I think he's great. Whatever it is, I'm only going to get married once. "My parents have met him and are happy with him, which means they won't nag me anymore. With that, I'll have peace in my life. There's no way I'm getting a divorce." Logan was something of a shield to her. Divorce was the one thing she feared right now. If that were to happen, Charles and Irene would nag her more than they'd done before. She could say goodbye to her dreams of getting rich. The incident from back then had dealt her a detrimental blow. From then on, she'd sworn to become rich and influential through hard work. Setting up her orchards was only the first step. Her career blueprint covered so much more, which was why she wanted to establish herself as an entrepreneur and make it big. Having one man in her life was more than enough for her. Sonia wanted to continue berating Lorraine, but she hung up before she could do so. Now that Lorraine had informed Sonia and asked for advice, she no longer feared sharing a room with Logan. They were legally married, and she knew sex was natural between couples. They couldn't avoid the subject forever. And so, she happily showered, making herself comfortable. Logan had already gotten into bed when she came out of the bathroom. His torso was bare, and he propped himself up while waiting for her. She couldn't help admiring his body. Was he waiting for her to pounce on him?
