After hearing the news, I felt nothing inside. Maybe in the past, I would have been pleased that Sharon finally took notice of me. But now, my feelings for her had all but faded.
"Mom, please don't bring her up again. I don't care about her anymore," I said as I stood up and adjusted her blankets. "I want to go see Dad and tell him I've cleared his name."
My mom gave me a gentle nod as I patted her head. "Go on, my dear."
I noticed a familiar figure standing by Dad's gravestone at the cemetery. A flicker of doubt crossed my mind as I hurried over. "Sharon, what are you doing here?"
She hadn't cared at all when Dad passed, but now here she was, pretending to mourn.
"I came to see Mr Leroy," Sharon said. Her eyes were fixed on the photo on the gravestone, and her voice was devoid of emotion.
I scoffed and gave a wry smile. "He wouldn't want to see you here."
"Sharon, can you leave me alone already? You're really starting to get on my nerves."
