I turned instinctively and saw Javin standing behind Sharon, his eyes icy and burning with an almost primal fury. It was as if he wanted to tear me apart.
Confused, I noted that, despite my conflict with Sharon, I had never intentionally provoked Javin. Yet his gaze was filled with a deep, unrelenting hatred.
"Kaelan, what's going on?" May asked, noticing my abrupt stop.
I shook my head. "Nothing. It's late, and I need to get you home. I've got a meeting with Mr. Lynch tomorrow to finalize the contract."
Sharon, seeing I wasn't engaging with her, clenched her jaw and sneered, "Kaelan, even a murderer like you is worried about his image now? If you're so concerned with your reputation, maybe you shouldn't be hanging out in places like this!"
Despite my resolve to stay composed, I couldn't resist snapping back, "Sharon, someone like you doesn't need to play the martyr in front of me."
I turned on my heel and walked out the door with May.
