Over the next few weeks, I made a conscious effort to steer clear of the Brand Development department. It wasn't difficult; I was kept incredibly busy dealing with new issues that cropped up as soon as I solved the previous ones. When I first entered this industry, I had this idea that a successful agent would eventually reach a point where there were no more fires to put out. I thought that if I worked hard enough or long enough, I would be able to breathe a sigh of relief without feeling the constant pressure of unresolved issues. However, after years of hard work, I realized that there was never a tipping point. No matter how much I accomplished, the wait times would always be unacceptable if I worked nonstop for the rest of my life.
I came to understand that the problem wasn't with me; it was the nature of this impatient town, filled with people who always wanted to be first in everyone's minds. As much as I hated to admit it, narcissists were the ones who thrived here. It us
