Our eyes met, and I saw the intensity in Rose's gaze.
"Why?"
I didn't understand why she was willing to do this.
She smiled and looked at me earnestly. "I admire your abilities, respect your character, and believe in your future. Though you don't come from a privileged background, your hard work makes you as capable as anyone.
"You can help me, and you can help Forefront International. I don't want to miss out on you."
Rose was straightforward and honest. For the first time, I felt a deep sense of validation from a woman. I poured her a glass of red wine and asked half-jokingly, "You're not sent by Lilith, are you?"
Rose took the glass, leaving a lip print on it.
A flash of displeasure crossed her eyes when I mentioned Lillith.

Her slender fingers tapped lightly on the table.
