"No, I don't. Eve will be my only child for the rest of my life. I will never have another child again."
My heart ached unbearably every single time I thought about Eve.
Wynnie's expression was starting to sour. I knew she had no feelings toward Eve. She just hated my rejection and retaliation.
I didn't care, though. I couldn't ignore Eve's death just because I wanted to go along with Wynnie.
We went our separate ways on that bitter note. Wynnie didn't chase after me.
Before, I would have felt sad that she didn't follow me.
After all, I was her husband. Did she really not care about her husband's feelings?
Now, however, I felt relieved.
I felt most relaxed and at ease when she didn't cling to me and tried to get me to put on an act of being the perfect husband and wife.
I was fetched back home and went upstairs to rest.
The moment I stepped into the bedroom, I got a call from Marie.
She seemed extremely anxious and panicked. "Mr. York, are you alone right now?"
