As she rounded the corner, Claire stopped abruptly in her footsteps as two people appeared in front of her.

Simon, who had been pushing Mason’s wheelchair, was standing while Mason directed his cold gaze at her. 

If she were still in her previous state of mind, Claire would probably have turned and left. However, after knowing that he was rejected by his grandfather and older brother, Claire looked at Mason in a different light. 

However, she had not forgotten the reality that he had aborted her child, so she turned and left. 

“Stop!” Mason hollered. 

Claire stopped in her tracks and answered huffily as she turned her head around. “What do you want?” 

“As my assistant, how dare you miss two days of work without any excuse? You don’t want the job anymore?” 

When she heard him, Claire was reminded of what Old Grand Master Yeich had said to her in the study. Remembering that she was 

Claire clutched the contract in her hands, the tips of her fingers turning white. Uncapping the pen, she signed her name at the end of it before she put the contract back into the bag and walked slowly towards him. 

Mason raised his eyebrows in satisfaction. “Women who I can get rid of using money are the easiest.” 

The next second, Claire slammed the contract onto the table. Mason wrinkled his brows in displeasure. 

“No need to use money to bribe me, I’ll fend for myself if I stay in the Yeich house. I’m very grateful to you for not aborting my child, but that doesn’t mean that you can use money to humiliate me!” 

“Pfft.” Mason laughed as his gaze at her became tinted with mockery. “Shouldn’t women like you view money as your lifeline?” 

“You!” Claire’s hand curled into fists as she wanted to argue with him. However, she loosened them again after a mere second as she laughed lightly and said, “That’s right. Since that’s how you see me, that’s the kind of person I am, right? We just take what we want anyway. Don’t you worry, I’ve already signed the contract. When the time comes, I’ll leave.” 

She had to find a solution by then.

“Excellent. I look forward to the day you leave.” 

The next moment, the petite figure turned and left. The check lay untouched on the table. 

Mason narrowed his eyes. 

The check was worth a lot of money, but she had not even taken a look at it. Was she pretending, or was she not interested in the money? 

If she weren’t interested in the money, then, what were her intentions when she married into the Yeich family? 

After the contract had been signed, Claire and Mason settled into a contractual relationship, and the number of arguments they had greatly decreased. She still followed Mason to the office to act as his assistant under the orders of Old Grand Master Yeich. 

Claire was not dumb, and she had quite a good work ethic. If she was given the chance to learn, she would grasp that opportunity. 

In less than a week, Simon had already cultivated a different view of the woman. 

“Young Master Yeich, she doesn’t seem to be so bad.” 

Mason laughed coolly. “Is that so?” 

Simon nodded. “She has done well in all the tasks Young Master Yeich has entrusted her with.” 

He was right, they were done well indeed. 

“A woman who married into the Yeich family by playing tricks, did you think she’s dumb?” 

That reply… Simon had no comeback for it, so he chose to not reply. He lowered his head to check the schedule. “There’s a banquet in the evening. Will Young Master Yeich be taking Miss Schmidt along?” 

“Take her?” Mason drummed his fingers lightly on the desk, his stare fixed on the contents of his laptop. “Take her to embarrass me?” 

Simon did not dare to say anything else, so he shut up. 

After that, they exchanged a few other words and Simon prepared to leave. 

Mason suddenly spoke. “Ask Claire to come in.” 

“Alright.” Simon could not help but purse his lips as he walked out of the office. 

Young Master Yeich seemed to be a living paradox lately. He had just said Claire was an embarrassment, yet now he was inviting her into his office. Could it be that he was going to bring her along to the banquet?

Claire’s workspace was next door. When Simon summoned her, she was in the middle of organizing files. 

“Give me two minutes, I’m almost done.” 

“Do you have a death wish?” Simon came up behind her and spoke seriously. “You dare dally for a minute when Young Master Yeich summons you?” 

Claire could only wrinkle her delicate eyebrows as she put the documents down. She took a deep breath before saying, “I understand.” 

Then, she rose and walked towards the office. 

When Claire walked into the office, Simon hid behind the door to eavesdrop. 

“Young Master Yeich, you asked for me?” Mason had one request when she worked at the office, which was to let no one know of their relationship. At the office, she was his assistant, that was all. When they met, she was to call him Young Master Yeich and use the proper honorifics. 

At first, Claire was extremely uncomfortable with it, but as time passed, she gradually grew used to it. 

Mason did not say anything as he threw a gold-colored invitation at her. 

Claire remained stunned for a moment before she picked it up. After taking a look at it, she asked, “Young Master Yeich, will you be attending this banquet?” Claire’s brain was whirring madly, and a strange flash of light was flowing in her beautiful eyes. “I remember that Mr. Lane from Lane Group was in the list of invitees as well. If nothing goes wrong, he’ll probably attend this banquet as well. Young Master Yeich could use this opportunity to discuss your intentions to work with him.” 

A flash of approval swept across the depths of Mason’s dark eyes. 

Hah, this woman reacted fast, and her memory was not too shabby as well. 

“Alright.” 

“Well then, I’ll prepare what’s needed for you immediately, Young Master Yeich.” 

“You’ll be going with me.” 

Claire had just turned around when she heard what Mason had said. Slowing her footsteps, she turned her head confusedly at him and asked, “Young Master Yeich is allowing me?” 

“I’m not interested in discussing work with other companies during a banquet. You’ll go.” 

When she heard that, Claire immediately understood. She nodded and said, “I understand. I’ll go and say hello to Mr. Lane when the time comes. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking my leave.” 

“There is something else.” Mason’s gaze was cold as he surveyed her. His gaze traveled from top to bottom and caused Claire to clench her legs together subconsciously in discomfort. 

“Change your clothes.” 

He wrinkled his eyebrows as he spoke. 

Claire lowered her head to look at what she was dressed in. They were all clothes from her past and did not cost much. 

However, they were comfortable. Besides, he had not said anything all this while, so Claire had continued wearing them. 

She bit on her lower lip. “Understood. I’ll get a new suit of clothes at the mall nearby once I’m done with work.” 

“Simon!” 

Simon, who had been standing at the door eavesdropping, shuddered violently. 

D*mn, had he been caught again? 

He had been caught both times he eavesdropped. Simon swore to himself that he would never eavesdrop again. 

Simon did not dare to dawdle and he immediately strode into the office. 

“Young Master Yeich.” 

Mason glanced at him coldly. Simon decoded the message within his gaze and after a few seconds, asked tentatively, “Young Master Yeich, I’ll take Miss Schmidt to get the clothes she’ll be wearing for the banquet tonight?”

“Yes.” 

He had guessed it correctly. Simon let out a sigh of relief. “Then I’ll go make preparations.” 

Half an hour later. 

The three of them appeared together at the mall. 

Claire trailed behind Mason and Simon as they entered a high-end store. The store was decorated tastefully and was playing relaxing music. 

Although Mason was seated in a wheelchair, it was obvious from a glance that his clothing was worth a lot of money. Besides, his presence demanded attention, and soon, a smiling employee approached them.

“Good day sir, welcome to our store.” 

Mason had a cold expression on his face, and his dark eyes never once gazed at the employee. It was Simon, who was standing behind him, who spoke, “Pick out a dress for her, something suitable for a banquet.” 

Claire was hiding behind Simon. To be honest, she was slightly scared. 

It was her first time in a store like this, and the decorations and shining lights in the store made her unable to lift her head. She had used to come to such places with her good friends in the past, but she had forgotten all about those days after marrying Joshua. 

The employee originally had a smile on her face, but after she saw what Claire was wearing, she could not keep the smile on her face. 

“This young lady?” 

“Yes!” Simon nodded as he said sternly, “Pick something proper for her, and don’t make any mistakes.” 

“Yes, yes. Miss, why don’t you follow me?” 

The employee brought Claire further within the store. 

Shortly after, Claire walked out in a black and white dress. Because it was Mason who had brought her here, the employee took her to get Mason’s opinion. 

Mason’s gaze was chilly. “Change it!” 

The expression on Claire’s face faltered slightly as she turned and changed into another dress. 

This time, she changed into a solid black one. Mason wrinkled his brows. 

Claire clenched her fingers together wordlessly as she continued turning. 

As she changed and changed again, Mason’s brows became even more tight-knit, the temperature in the store seemed to have been enveloped by his chilly aura. 

When the employee brought her out again, Mason threw his magazine onto the table with a loud thud. 

Frightened, Claire instinctively bit on her lower lip.

“How about… we stop trying, I…” 

Mason’s gaze made Claire nearly unable to lift her head upright. She knew that she did not have a commanding presence, and was not suited to wear these dresses. These dresses were not tailored to people with her temperament.

Mason’s sharp gaze landed on the employee as he finished speaking. 

The employee immediately felt a wave of pressure press onto her shoulders. Her face paled as she nodded stiffly. “Understood.”

Mason winced in pain as he removed his mouth from hers. 

“So, it seems that not only does Mrs. Yeich bark, she likes to bite too.”

Mason sneered as he reached to wipe the blood from his lips. He had been born handsome, but because he usually had a cold expression on his face, he looked even more good-looking when he smiled. However, his expression now was one of bloodlust. He looked like an angered lion, plus the bright red on his lips made him look even more devilishly handsome. 

Claire finally found a gap to push him away, her petite figure crouching in a corner. 

“Mason Yeich, what do you want to do? Don’t forget that you had made a pact with me. Didn’t you forbid me from touching you? Then what were you doing just now?” 

Mason did not answer as he stared at her coldly. 

Claire adjusted her collar, then bit her lip as she stared stubbornly at him.
