Chapter 32 : Brothers By Fate
Ash's POV
We were in the parking lot of the Elm Street Strip Mall right off of Odell's facing Tom's Liquors.
David hadn't spoken a word since I walked back with him to his cherry-red Lincoln Cosmopolitan. Sitting in the creamy leather seats felt unreal. Last time I'd seen this car had been New Year's. The day my whole world got rocked upside down for the third time in my life.
I had an uncanny feeling that this might be the fourth.
The grip on my satchel tightened. Though I had talked a big game, I hadn't been able to replace the ring that had broken the giant's nose since he tried to splatter me over the school's linoleum. I was—as Kenny had feared—essentially powerless should the oaf try something. A fact that didn't quite sit well with me if the cramping in my stomach was anything to go by.
David's hands clenched around the steering wheel as he stared unblinking into the glass front of the liquor store, waiting. Stalking. Hunting.
