CHAPTER 9:TOUGH CHOICE
EMILIA'S POV
The celebration was loud, the laughter and chatter of the pack echoing through the air. The fire pit blazed brightly in the center of the clearing, casting long shadows over the crowd.
This was their full moon night celebration, back at the pack, when my parents are alive, I do join them in celebration. As this was a day dedicated to the moon goddess.
It was the perfect distraction. Everyone was too busy enjoying themselves to notice me slipping away.
I stayed in the corner of the festivities, blending in with the others as best as I could. My heart pounded hard as I scanned the edges of the clearing, looking for the easiest way out. The guards who normally patrolled the perimeter were distracted, laughing and drinking with the others.
This was my chance.
Pulling the hood of my sweater over my head, I inched toward the edge of the gathering, keeping my movements slow and deliberate.
