Chapter 67: Stuck in the Dungeons
Cameron’s POV
I was thrust into the depths of the dungeons, not where I had anticipated an audience with the King. The smell of rust and mildew filled the air as the damp, cold walls closed in about me. With a finality that chilled my spine, the guards locked the iron-barred door behind them and threw me in here without saying a word.
My thoughts were racing as I paced the little cage. How could things have gone so badly? I had been getting ready to battle for my freedom, Emilia, and everything of my hard-earned gains one minute. The next, like some useless prisoner, I was wasting away in a cell.
I scanned the walls with my fingers, looking for any loose stone, fissure, or indication of weakness. But I knew as soon as I touched the wet surface. This institution was constructed to keep individuals like me from ever escaping, not only to house criminals.
Frustration brewing beneath my skin, I clinched my hands. I needed to leave. I needed to locate Emilia. A shuffling noise interrupt
