Chapter 109: Through the Shroud
Emilia’s POV
The trip seemed to go on forever. The kilometres went by more slowly than they ought to have because of the burden of the task at hand and the uncertainty that persisted at every turn. With just a few warriors to go with us, we had slipped past the sleeping city and left the palace behind in the dead of night. None of us knew what lay ahead in the centre of the Forbidden Forest, where the Oracle was rumoured to reside, despite their bravery and loyalty.
Leading the way, Cameron's dark cloak billowed in the wind as his powerful, resolute stride sliced through the forest's thick underbrush. The trees here appeared to be very old, with towering canopies that could obscure out the sky and gnarled roots that gripped the ground like fingers. The forest appeared to be imprisoned in gloom, even throughout the day. It felt like the ground itself was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen, because there was something strange and heavy about the air that made breathing
