Chapter 10
Tiffany immediately knew that Lucas' conversation with Evelyn had not gone well after seeing Lucas' frigid expression upon his return. His disdain toward Evelyn was extremely obvious.
However, Sophia seemed slightly distracted while asking, "Lucas, did she say anything to you? Did she say something bad about me or—"
He looked up at her. "Did you do something to make her mad?"
"I didn't. I don't have that much time!"
Jason walked in and glanced at Lucas. Not wanting to make Tiffany unhappy, he avoided mentioning what he had seen outside.
After all, no one would be happy to know that someone was throwing themselves at their boyfriend.
Mason chuckled, adding, "Why are you asking Sophia? Evelyn's crossed the line by following you here. Even if she wanted to cause a scene, she should at least look at herself in the mirror and ask whether she has the right to do so."
Lighting up a cigarette, Jason continued, "From the looks of it, she'll probably cling to you even if you file for divorce. Lucas, better prepare yourself for such a possibility."
Lucas did not answer, and his expression remained indifferent as he poured Tiffany a drink.
Tiffany, on the other hand, merely smiled, brushing off the incident without expressing anything.
Watching the situation unfold, Sophia felt a pang of guilt for her actions instead. However, she thought things through and changed her mind.
Evelyn was probably pathetic enough to show up anyway even if she hadn't done anything. Since that was the case, why should Sophia bother to explain anything?
For such a cheap and worthless woman like Evelyn, did it even matter that everyone had misunderstood what had happened?
With that thought in mind, Sophia immediately relaxed and continued asking Tiffany about Aurelian University.
…
Evelyn had arranged a meeting with her doctor next Monday to talk about her conservative treatment.
On Friday morning, Justine had also texted her, informing her that Sebastian would attend a drone flight control competition that afternoon.
Being one of the major stakeholders of the Flying Seal Group, she was meant to be in attendance with him.
In an attempt to resolve the tension between Evelyn and Sebastian, Justine provided her invitation to Evelyn instead, encouraging her to use the opportunity to meet with Sebastian.
Evelyn felt touched and guilty at the same time. She had trusted the wrong person for so long and disappointed a lot of people with her actions, making her remorseful.
Meanwhile, at 10:00 am, she still had to complete her handover after submitting her resignation letter. She had already decided on a colleague whom she believed could take her place, so she handed all the important tasks to the said person.
"Ms. Reed, are you really planning to leave?" Her assistant manager, Taylor Brooke, looked at her regretfully.
Taylor liked Evelyn a lot. Evelyn might have been aloof and unfriendly, but she was a good person at heart.
"You seemed to have been ill for a while now. Have you gone to the doctor? Did your husband go with you?"
Evelyn paused momentarily before answering, "I did go for a check up. It's nothing serious."
She avoided the question of whether her husband had accompanied her or not. Even if she was on her deathbed, Lucas probably wouldn't have cared.
She did not answer the question regarding whether her husband had accompanied her or not. Lucas probably would not even care if she was on her deathbed.
Taylor was relieved. "Don't you usually send your husband lunch everyday? Aren't you going today?"
Everyone in the PR department knew that Evelyn was the epitome of a perfect wife.
She had once told them that her husband suffered from a bad stomach and was always picky with his food. So, she had made it a habit to prepare all of her husband's meals and would always bring him lunch every day without fail.
It was a shame they had never managed to see what Evelyn's husband looked like. They all marveled at his luck for having married such a devoted wife.
Evelyn's eyes flickered as she lowered her gaze. "Yes. I won't be going today."
In fact, she would not be sending him lunch ever again.
Taylor did not think much about her answer and changed the topic.
Her voice was filled with admiration as she continued, "It must be so reassuring to have a good husband. I feel like life just isn't fair toward everyone. Do you know who Tiffany is? Look at these photos."
Evelyn looked down at Taylor's phone. One was a photo of Lucas supporting Tiffany, while the other was of him carrying Tiffany like a bride while ignoring the looks the people around him gave.
"Tiffany's high heels didn't fit her, so Mr. Grant immediately carried her up the stairs and looked so worried about her. Now, that's what it means to be cherished properly.
"Everyone in the company is so envious of Tiffany. She's beautiful and smart. Almost all of the companies would like to hire her. She even has someone influential like Mr. Grant to pave the way for her.
"In my opinion, it's only a matter of time until she becomes Mrs. Grant! It's a shame you're leaving soon, Ms. Reed. Otherwise, we could have met up with Tiffany and gotten on her good side together."
All of the employees in Bluezen were sure that Tiffany would end up marrying Lucas. After all, everyone could see the blatant display of affection he had toward her.
Evelyn lowered her gaze and went to the bathroom to touch up her makeup, hiding her pale complexion.
She did not want to drag out her resignation any longer, and since it had not been approved, she decided to head up to the top floor.
She ran into Michael and asked, "Where's Lucas?"
Michael immediately frowned. Then, he queried, "Are you here to bring him lunch again? It's not even lunchtime yet. I've already told you that you're not allowed to bother Mr. Grant!"
Soon, Evelyn found out why he was so annoyed at her.
