I clutched the report and was ready to explain when the headhunter snatched it from my hand and stuffed it back into my pocket. "If I say you're fine, you are. Let's just get the contract signed, okay?"
The headhunter's behavior was odd.
"But what if the boss finds out?" I asked.
"The boss said as long as you're not disabled or on death's doorstep, it's fine."
I grew increasingly suspicious of the headhunter's response. Was the boss looking for a driver or setting themselves up for trouble? I had no choice but to bite the bullet and sign the contract for now.
As soon as I signed, the headhunter grabbed the document gleefully and called out to the adjacent room, "Ms. Smith, the contract is signed. You can take him now."
