Chapter 20 Breaking News

Annie simply could not do it. Her gaze was steady, but it felt like a fawn was stumbling around in her heart, afraid the overbearing Myles would disagree. If so, she could only silently accept her fate. Only, that would be the start of her nightmare, and she would never forgive him for the rest of her life. Perhaps he noticed what was going through Annie’s mind, for Myles retracted his sinister leer after a while. He flipped over from his position above her, a serious expression on his face. “I’ll go take a shower.” Not giving her a clear answer, Myles left Annie with only the cool image of his back, but Annie heaved a sigh of relief. This meant he agreed, right? Body and heart relaxed, Annie sat quietly for a long while before returning to her senses, her dizzy mind clearing up a bit as well. Only then did she start taking in the layout of the room. The room was a duplex and extraordinarily large. The decorations were rather minimalistic, hiding the luxury within. All the furnishings in the room displayed its fine taste. Even the corners of the desk had patterns carved into it, and the bed beneath Annie was so soft it made her drowsy… Compared to the relaxed Annie, the man taking a cold shower in the bathroom could not calm his agitated emotions at all. This was the first time in years that he had had an interest in another woman… He did not know what magic Annie possessed. But… upon hearing her rejection, even if there had been ten million bugs biting at his heart, he could not bear to hurt her. “Sh*t!” Myles pounded a fist on the sparklingly clean marble wall. The spike of pain calmed him down a little. His eyes, drenched in shower water, became bloodshot. He had long sworn he would never develop feelings for a woman ever again and to never trust them either, yet he could not help but keep getting closer to Annie… Myles stood under the shower of cold water for a long time before he managed to shelve the weird thoughts that kept surfacing as well as cool off the fire in his heart. However, when he walked out of the bathroom and saw the figure of a certain woman lying on his bed… inelegantly sprawled and asleep… The flame in Myles’ heart started burning again, except it was a fire of rage this time… “This woman!” Myles ground his teeth and threw the towel in his hand to the ground. Seeing Annie peacefully asleep, he wanted to string her up and whip her! There had been no woman who dared to sleep so comfortably on his bed and blatantly ignore his existence—no, aside from her, there had not even been another woman who had been on this bed! Myles stood there, gritting his teeth in simmering anger while Annie slept so soundly that a sandstorm would not wake her… When she awoke from her dreams, the early morning light was already streaming into the room. She rolled around on the soft covers, mischievously rubbing her eyelids… A certain man was also similarly mischievous. He held his hand against his head as he lay on his side beside Annie. His long, fair finger drew circles over Annie’s cheek, but even that gave off a dangerous air. “Mmph…” Annie moaned in the one second she was unaware as she opened her eyes. Her tone was warm and soft like cotton candy, instantly melting a certain someone’s heart. “You’re awake now?” His charming voice, with a hint of laziness, made the still drowsy Annie shudder. Reason spun a few rounds in her mind before getting her back on track. Everything that happened yesterday flooded her brain like a tidal wave, and she finally remembered that she was currently… on Myles’ bed! “Ah!” Back to her senses, Annie’s first response was to shriek, and this sound made Myles instinctively reach out a hand to cover her mouth. Even the maids waiting outside jumped. “What the hell are you screaming for?” Myles growled in a suppressed voice. Impatience was obvious in his gaze. Women were troublesome after all. The infant-like sweetness on Annie’s slumbering face had long completely disappeared. He wanted to throw her straight out the window. “Mmph…” With her mouth covered, Annie could only use her indignant gaze to protest and show she would not scream again. Only then did Myles let go of her mouth. “I… you… we…” The first thing Annie did when she got her freedom was to pull the covers to her chest, then sneak a glance beneath them. Good, her clothes were still on… Her face was as red as a ripened apple, and her words were jumbled up. Taking in her panicked appearance, Myles wanted to pry open her brain to see it had gone haywire. She had fallen asleep first last night. Could she not remember it at all? “Relax. I don’t have any interest in you whatsoever. Hurry and get up, you lazy *ss!” Myles flipped over and got off the bed. A large patch of bronze skin appeared before Annie’s eyes. Her heated face had not recovered, and another sunset-red glow fell over her face… “Agh! Why aren’t you wearing clothes!” Annie tugged the covers to her head, covering her face and blocking her line of vision. Her heart pumped non-stop. The two maids outside the door exchanged glances yet again. This was… breaking news…
