Nova finally fell asleep, lulled by the soft sound of Tristan's voice as he whispered words of comfort.
Back at the police station, the interrogation had come to an end. Ruby, in her desperation, had tried to turn the tables, accusing Nova of trying to kill her.
She claimed that everything she did was in self-defense. But her story was riddled with inconsistencies, her logic a tangled mess. The nervous energy she radiated only made things worse.
The police weren't convinced, and she was placed in temporary custody.
Sitting alone in the small, dimly lit holding cell, Ruby's frustration grew. She demanded the officers contact her lawyer, but it was the middle of the night. Who was going to answer her call at this hour?
"Just wait," she muttered under her breath, bitterness seeping into her words. "When I get out of here, they'll all regret it."
