CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR – FIGHTING FOR THE PACK
For a moment, Laura was tempted by the offer. The thought of returning to her normal, safe life was incredibly appealing. But then she thought of Leah, of Emma, of all the people in the compound who had shown her kindness.
"No," she said, surprising herself with the firmness in her voice. "I want to stay. I can't abandon the friends I've made here."
Logan nodded, a hint of approval in his eyes. "Very well. But remember what I said. Be careful, Laura. Things are likely to get worse before they get better."
As Laura left Logan's office, her mind was whirling with everything that had happened. The compound, which had once seemed like a potential sanctuary, now felt like a powder keg ready to explode.
Over the next few days, Laura did her best to follow Logan's advice. She stuck close to Leah or Emma whenever possible, and she kept her ears open for any further signs of trouble.
