CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO – GIVING IN TO HIS DEMANDS

Beside her, Logan tensed, his muscles coiled like a predator ready to strike. Laura discreetly placed a hand on his arm, a silent plea for restraint. "Fine," she spat, snatching the envelope from Dr. Carter's grasp. "I'll do it." The doctor's smug grin returned. "Excellent. You have 48 hours to complete the mission. If you fail or try to double-cross me..." He let the threat hang in the air, ominous and unspoken. With a curt nod, he turned on his heel and strode away, his henchmen following closely behind. Laura watched them disappear into the shadows, her heart hammering against her ribs. As soon as they were alone, Logan wrapped her in a fierce embrace, his muscular arms enveloping her in a protective cocoon. "Are you alright?" he murmured, his voice thick with concern. Laura nodded, drawing strength from his solid presence. "I'm fine. But we have to figure out a plan." They retreated to the safety of Logan's car, poring over the contents of the envelope.
