CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN – THE COVER STORY
One evening, about a week after they'd moved in, Laura was preparing dinner when she heard a knock at the front door. Her heart leapt into her throat, and she reached for the concealed weapon they kept in the kitchen.
"Relax," Logan's voice came from behind her. "It's just the neighbors."
Laura took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing pulse. "Right. Neighbors. We should probably go say hello, shouldn't we?"
Logan nodded, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Ready to play happy families, dear?"
Before Laura could respond, he'd wrapped an arm around her waist and was guiding her to the door. The casual intimacy of the gesture left her feeling flustered.
The neighbors turned out to be a friendly middle-aged couple, the Johnsons. They'd brought over a homemade casserole as a welcome gift.
"We're so glad to have a nice young family moving in," Mrs. Johnson gushed. "How long have you two been married?"
