Chapter 64 : Rogue encounter
The cities were quickly isolated as chaos broke out. People were running and screaming like in an apocalypse.
"The reinforcements will arrive shortly," I said, whirling toward Athereld. He was still holding the baby in his arms, staring at it with an indecipherable expression. The baby, however, was long gone.
Athereld gently placed it on its mother's chest, letting them rest together.
"How could they do this?" Athereld muttered as his hands balled into fists.
I squeezed his shoulder, unaware of how to respond. I had never seen Athereld like this before. Perhaps he was really fond of babies.
Athereld got up, his eyes lingering on my torn skirt. "The reinforcements are close, you say? Then you should hurry to Caspian. I will deal with the rogues and try to calm the city back here," Athereld said, his voice cracking as he gazed pleadingly into my eyes.
